About
About me
I’ve been a Gentoo Linux developer since 2003, and I’m working to transform Gentoo into a great distribution. I’m a jack of all trades, and I’ve worked in areas including leading our public relations team, maintaining the X window system, working with our council to decide on global Gentoo issues, managing our desktop efforts, and working with scientific and clustering applications.
I’m also a graduate student in biochemistry and biophysics at Oregon State University, working on my Ph.D. My work focuses on accurately modeling protein structure. I use a number of tools to accomplish that, including X-ray crystallography and homology modeling.
Since my undergraduate days, I’ve taken a strong interest in journalism. I spent 4 years on the college newspaper, and I was awarded a Dow Jones Newspaper Fund internship at The State (Columbia, S.C.) for copy editing. I’m a guest author for LWN.net, the best Linux news site. I remain interested in copy editing and design as well as the future of online journalism.
